Ottawa, Ontario July 19, 2017 – Shaw Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Julia Forbes to the position of Director, Marketing and Sponsorship. Julia comes to Shaw Centre after a decade of success with large events and organizations in the health, sport, entertainment and hospitality industries. Her experience with developing and executing a diverse range of marketing, communications, sponsorship and event strategies will serve her well as she leads Shaw Centre’s accomplished marketing team.


“Julia’s appointment comes after an extensive national search where her marketing expertise, her passion for innovation and creativity and her success in building brand awareness within a variety of industries really stood out,” said Shaw Centre President and CEO Nina Kressler. “As our organization continues to grow and evolve, we were looking for someone who can help us craft new strategies to help us provide excellent service to our existing clients while also developing innovative approaches to position us to conquer new markets. Julia’s experience will be vital in taking our brand to the next level, maximizing our digital and social presence as well as growing our sponsorship and partnership objectives.”

A University of Ottawa Telfer School of Management graduate, Julia has gained extensive experience in client services, marketing consultancy and project management through her work for Acart Communications Inc., one of Ottawa’s leading integrated Social Issue and Cause marketing and advertising agencies. Julia most recently served as the Manager, Brand Marketing with the Canadian Paralympic Committee where she led the organization’s branding, promotions, advertising and marketing initiatives while managing their in-house Special Events team. “I particularly enjoyed forging and nurturing relationships with our member organizations, suppliers and many valued partners” says Julia. “I am confident my experience and enthusiasm will allow me to further develop the Shaw Centre brand story by sharing a unified message of a relentless pursuit and passion to create extraordinary events for clients at Canada’s Meeting Place.”

Julia has a passion for excellence in customer service and is very well acquainted with the many appealing aspects of the national capital region as an event destination, having grown up in the city. Her experience planning and attending events, including playing a key role on-site with Team Canada for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, Guadalajara 2011 Parapan American Games, London 2012 Paralympic Games and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, has provided her with directly applicable knowledge of the Canadian and international meeting, convention and service sector landscape. Julia is passionate about volunteer work and championing the development of Ottawa’s health, sport and tourism community.
